Steve Schexnayder, MD
Dr. Steve Schexnayder serves as Medical Director for Southern Legacy of Life, bringing more than 35 years of clinical leadership and experience in pediatric critical care and internal medicine. His career reflects a deep commitment to high‑quality patient care, medical leadership, and advocacy for organ and tissue donation.
Dr. Schexnayder is a pediatric intensivist and an accomplished academic physician at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), where he currently serves as Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. He previously held the role of Section Chief of Critical Care Medicine at UAMS and served as Chief of Staff at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, providing leadership across complex clinical and multidisciplinary environments.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Schexnayder has been actively involved in public service, including work with the Arkansas Department of Health and participation in international medical mission work. Throughout his career, he has been a consistent advocate for donation, recognizing its life‑saving impact on patients and families.
As Medical Director, Dr. Schexnayder supports Southern Legacy of Life’s mission by providing clinical oversight, physician engagement, and strategic medical leadership in support of organ and tissue donation across the region.
