Birth Tissue Donation
Tiny Miracle. Massive Impact.
What is Birth Tissue Donation?
Mothers delivering by planned C-section can choose to donate birth tissue — the placenta, umbilical cord, and amniotic membrane. These tissues are usually discarded after a healthy birth but can be used to help patients heal from injuries, burns, and surgical wounds.
With one decision, up to 75 life-restoring gifts can be made. Donation is safe for mom and baby, requires no extra cost or procedures, and does not change your delivery experience.
Southern Legacy of Life’s Birth Tissue Donation Program is built on a strong foundation of experience within the birth tissue and donation community.
Our team is led by highly trained professionals who are Certified Tissue Bank Specialists (CTBS) and understand prioritizing compliance with all FDA guidelines and AATB regulatory standards to ensure a safe, ethical, and seamless donation process.
Based in Central Arkansas, Southern Legacy of Life serves families and hospital partners throughout the region, supporting programs that allow expectant mothers the opportunity to donate their birth tissue — including the placenta, umbilical cord, and amniotic membrane — to help restore the lives of patients in need of a life restoring gift.
At Southern Legacy of Life, mom and baby are always at the center of our mission. We are dedicated to making the birth tissue donation experience smooth, respectful, and meaningful for every family we serve. Our team is committed to providing education, guidance, and support to both medical professionals and expectant parents, ensuring everyone understands the life-changing impact every birth tissue donation makes in our community!
Simple Donation Process
As simple as completing a consent form with a Coordinator and answering a confidential questionnaire related to your medical and social history. (The questions are similar to those asked of blood donors.)
Committed to Quality
Southern Legacy of Life’s Birth Tissue Team follows all federal, state, and local tissue banks standards, as well as all FDA, AATB regulations and standards.
Safe (no risk) to Mother & Baby
The donation process takes place after the delivery of a healthy baby and does not interfere with the care that mom or the baby receives.
Preferred Choice in Birth Tissue Donation
As the state’s only Organ and Tissue Procurement Organization we have a strong relationship with medical staff– which makes us the preferred choice for hospitals, processors, and medical staff.
